Precautionary Measures During Covid-19
Due to an increase of cases of Covid-19 in our area we have decided to implement new precautions at our clinic. This is to ensure the safety of our staff and clients. Effective immediately clients will not be allowed to wait in our lobby during intake/release. We will continue providing surgeries for your pets by appointment only. We will not be hosting Wellness Clinic at this time until further notice. Our doors will remain closed but we are offering Curbside service for previous pets needing heartworm or flea/tick preventative, with all this being said, please understand that with our new changes and accommodations we will have longer than usual wait time for our scheduling appointments and have a limited staff. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have cause you.
We will not be in-taking any FERAL CATS until further notice.
RGV Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic
The RGV Low Cost/Spay Neuter Clinic is dedicated to the ending of pet overpopulation by providing high quality and affordable sterilization services for companion animals.
The mission of the RGV Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is to reduce the pet overpopulation by providing high volume, high quality and affordable sterilization services to all companion animals of the Rio Grande Valley.
High volume, high quality, targeted and affordable sterilization.
Who are we?
The RGV Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is a non-profit organization formed in October 2007.
The mission of the RGV Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is to reduce the pet overpopulation by providing high volume, high quality and affordable sterilization services to all companion animals in the Rio Grande Valley.
The organization openes the doors to its new clinic in November 2009.
Why does the Rio Grande Valley need a clinic?
Pet overpopulation is a serious problem in the Rio Grande Valley. More than 40,000 dogs and cats enter the local animal center every year and more than 27,000 will never leave alive. There are only two ways to control pet overpopulation: euthanasia or sterilization. Sterilization (spay or neuter surgery) is the only humane solution.
Presently the RGV Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is the only clinic in the Rio Grande Valley that offers spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats at a reduced cost. There are many responsible pet owners who realize the necessity, but need an affordable alternative.
How bad is the problem?
An intact female cat can reproduce three times a year, having an average of 5 kittens per litter. This same cat and her kittens can produce more than 11 million kittens in just 9 years. An intact female dog can reproduce twice a year, having an average of 6 puppies per litter. This same dog and her puppies can produce more than 67,000 puppies in 6 years.
These numbers are staggering. The Palm Valley Animal Center and local rescue groups are overwhelmed with animals entering their doors and they are doing the best they can. Because there are more animals than homes, the shelter must decide which animals live or die. But the answer is not to build more shelters. The answer is to stop the cycle of reproduction that leads to overpopulation.
How will the clinic help?
The clinic will offer low cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs. Many of the most serious overpopulation issues begin in neighborhoods where individuals have limited access to veterinary care, limited financial resources, or limited education regarding animal issues. Volunteers will focus their outreach efforts in these communities and the clinic will also serve the general public.
How will the clinic help me, if I do not own a pet?
Public Safety, Taxes and Fees. Since the cities and county will spend less money dealing with stray, abused and unwanted pets, there will be more money to spend on other important issues like education and healthcare.
